OuroDesk vs HoneyBook: for billable work, not creative services

HoneyBook made the same bet OuroDesk did — that independent professionals are tired of stitching together six tools — and it has been enormously successful at it. But it made the bet for photographers, event planners, DJs, florists and venues. OuroDesk made it for firms that bill for professional-services work, which means scoping, proposals, negotiated terms, time and billing, and getting paid. If HoneyBook's audience is yours, buy HoneyBook; it is excellent and it is cheaper than people expect.

HoneyBook's own comparison page says it can replace five or more platforms and save over $2,000 a year — Typeform, Calendly, DocuSign, QuickBooks and Trello or Asana. That is a fair claim for a creative-services business. For an accounting or advisory firm, the tools being replaced are different, and the billing, proposal and accounting integration requirements are stricter.

"Not advertised" means the capability does not appear on the vendor's public product or pricing pages. It is not a claim that the capability is definitively absent — check with them directly if it matters to your decision.

  • Built for negotiated professional work

Ordered parallel, sequential or hybrid signer groups with named responsibilities, amendment classes, engagement tracking per proposal, and billable rates against time. HoneyBook is built around galleries, bookings and scheduling.

  • Xero and QuickBooks, both today

HoneyBook syncs payments to QuickBooks Online from Essentials. OuroDesk ships bidirectional Xero and QuickBooks syncs for invoices, contacts and items, with field mappings and a replayable job ledger.

  • A proposal signature you can prove

OuroDesk signs the exact version the client saw with Ed25519 and timestamps it to RFC 3161, with a public verification link. HoneyBook has interactive files with eSignatures; it does not advertise cryptographic proof.

  • Multi-currency and exchange rates

Per-currency proposal totals, a currency policy and exchange rates, with fixed-decimal arithmetic. HoneyBook's published pricing does not advertise multi-currency invoicing.

  • Cheaper at the top of the range

HoneyBook Premium is $109 per month for unlimited team members. OuroDesk Pro is $29 per seat per month, so ten seats is $290 — cheaper than HoneyBook Starter with two team members is not, but the per-seat model scales predictably.

  • A far larger built-in feature surface

HoneyBook Finance and HoneyBook Capital, a mobile app, scheduling and book-and-pay, galleries, contracts, 24/7 support, a template gallery and a 60-day money-back guarantee. None of that is coming from us.

  • A serious AI suite

AI chat, an AI automations builder, email drafts, a meeting notetaker, lead notifications, follow-up suggestions, project recaps, a daily priority list and business trends. OuroDesk's AI assistant is narrow and always approval-gated for writes.

  • A very wide integration directory

Canva, Flodesk, Calendly, Pic-Time, Prismm, Zoom, Zapier and more, alongside a public template and prop marketplace. OuroDesk has Xero, QuickBooks, Stripe, Mercado Pago, Resend and OpenAI.

  • Built for a creative-services buyer

If you sell photography, events or venue services, HoneyBook's templates, galleries, scheduling and marketing automation are exactly what you need, and we would not try to catch up.

Who should choose HoneyBook?

If you are a US tax practice that needs IRS transcripts, a native client mobile app, or tax-specific workflow templates, {competitor} is a better fit today. This page is not a claim that one product is better in every case — it is a description of where the two products actually differ.

Questions about switching

HoneyBook also starts at $29. How is OuroDesk different on price?
The models differ rather than the sticker. HoneyBook Starter is $29 per month flat with up to two team members, Essentials is $49 with up to two team members and QuickBooks, and Premium is $109 for unlimited members. OuroDesk is $29 per seat per month, so it is cheaper than HoneyBook Premium at any meaningful headcount and more expensive than HoneyBook Essentials for a very small creative business.
I am a photographer. Should I switch?
No. HoneyBook is built for your business — galleries, scheduling, templates, marketing automation and a finance arm. OuroDesk is for firms that bill for professional-services engagements. We would rather point you at the right tool than take a customer we cannot serve well.
Does HoneyBook verify signed proposals?
HoneyBook offers contracts and eSignatures on interactive files. It does not advertise public cryptographic verification of a signed agreement. OuroDesk signs the exact version the client saw with Ed25519, timestamps it to RFC 3161, and publishes a link anyone can check to confirm who signed, what they agreed to, and that it has not changed.
What does OuroDesk not have that HoneyBook does?
A mobile app, a large AI suite including an automations builder and meeting notetaker, integrated business banking and lending, a wide third-party integration directory, scheduling and book-and-pay, and galleries. That is a long list and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
