OuroDesk vs TaxDome: practice management for billable work
TaxDome is a mature practice-management platform built specifically for US tax and accounting firms, and it is good at what it does. OuroDesk is a workspace for firms that bill for professional-services work and need signed proposals they can prove. The two overlap heavily, and the honest comparison comes down to price, commitment, and what each one refuses to do.
TaxDome serves the tax practice: tax organizers, IRS transcripts, and compliance workflow. OuroDesk serves the billable engagement: scoping, proposals, signatures, invoicing and payment, in one record. If your revenue comes from tax preparation, read the rest of this page but also read theirs — they may well be the right fit.

"Not advertised" means the capability does not appear on the vendor's public product or pricing pages. It is not a claim that the capability is definitively absent — check with them directly if it matters to your decision.
- Less than half the per-seat cost
TaxDome Essentials lists $800 per seat per year, Pro $1,000 and Business $1,200 — about $67, $83 and $100 per seat per month. OuroDesk Pro is $29 per seat per month, or $290 per seat per year.
- No annual lock-in
TaxDome bills a one-year commitment upfront. OuroDesk is month to month, and you can cancel from the billing page without making a call.
- Proposals you can prove were signed
OuroDesk signs the exact version the client saw with Ed25519 and timestamps it to RFC 3161, and publishes a verification link anyone can check. TaxDome does not advertise public cryptographic verification of signed proposals.
- Xero sync, not just QuickBooks
TaxDome advertises QuickBooks Online, Stripe, Zapier, Juno and Calendly. OuroDesk ships Xero and QuickBooks, which matters for the firms that have not migrated off Xero.
- Self-serve, no implementation fee
Public sign-up is not open yet. TaxDome sells through demo requests.
- IRS transcript download
TaxDome pulls IRS transcripts directly into client accounts. OuroDesk has no equivalent, and we do not think it is a gap we can close for everyone.
- A real client mobile app
TaxDome ships a top-100 iOS and Android app for clients, with a white-labelled option as an add-on. OuroDesk has no mobile app yet.
- Tax-specific workflow templates
Tax organizers, tax programs, tax return delivery and a work forecaster are things a general professional-services workspace does not model.
- A larger marketplace and support bench
Zapier, Juno, Calendly, an IRS integration, Client Care support for your clients, and a partner marketplace that OuroDesk does not have.
Who should choose TaxDome?
If you are a US tax practice that needs IRS transcripts, a native client mobile app, or tax-specific workflow templates, {competitor} is a better fit today. This page is not a claim that one product is better in every case — it is a description of where the two products actually differ.
Questions about switching
- Is OuroDesk cheaper than TaxDome?
- Per seat, yes, and by a wide margin. TaxDome's cheapest public plan is $800 per seat per year with a one-year commitment, which works out to about $67 per seat per month. OuroDesk Pro is $29 per seat per month, or $290 per seat per year if you pay annually. For a five-seat firm that is roughly $2,775 a year against $4,000.
- Can I migrate from TaxDome to OuroDesk myself?
- Yes. Import your client list from CSV, set up your service catalog, pick a proposal template, and start sending. You do not need a paid implementation package. If you want hands-on help, the Enterprise plan includes it.
- Does OuroDesk do tax workflows?
- No, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. OuroDesk does not model tax organizers, tax programs, IRS transcript retrieval or tax return delivery. If your firm is a tax practice and that workflow is the centre of your business, TaxDome is built for exactly that and is the better buy.
- What does OuroDesk have that TaxDome genuinely does not?
- Two things we can point at concretely. First, cryptographically verifiable proposals: the signed version is Ed25519-signed and RFC 3161-timestamped, with a public link anyone can check, and you can revoke the link. TaxDome does not advertise this. Second, Xero sync alongside QuickBooks. Everything else on this page that favours OuroDesk is about price or commitment, not capability.
